Offline games worth keeping

July 29, 2026 · Lena Brandt

Not every game needs a connection, and the offline ones are the heroes of a long flight or a basement subway ride. I always keep a few installed specifically for moments when the signal dies.

Single-player adventures and simulations are the usual winners here. They don't need servers, they save locally, and they pick up right where you left off. A quiet exploration game is perfect company for a long train.

Turn-based RPGs also tend to work offline, which makes them great travel picks. Just double-check before you leave, because some sneak in online-only features like daily logins that gate progress.

My rule is to test a game in airplane mode once before I rely on it. If it boots, loads a save, and plays without complaint, it earns a permanent spot in my travel folder.
