Why genre still matters on mobile

Why genre still matters on mobile

People sometimes treat all mobile games as one blurry category, but the genre tells you exactly how a game will fit into your day. A turn-based RPG rewards long sessions on the couch. A casual tapper is for the three minutes in a queue.

Strategy games on phones have gotten genuinely good, but they ask for focus and a charged battery. I don't start an RTS match when I have five minutes. Adventure and simulation games tend to be the gentlest on both your time and your phone.

Racing and arcade titles are the opposite: short bursts of high intensity that eat battery fast. They're great, but I keep them for when I'm plugged in. Knowing this ahead of time saves a lot of frustration.

The point is to match the game to the moment. Build a little rotation across genres and you'll always have the right thing open for however much time and charge you've got.
