Saving battery without hating your game

Saving battery without hating your game

Mobile games are battery hogs, but a lot of that drain is optional. Before I blame a game, I check what it's doing to the screen and the processor, because that's where most of the power goes.

The single biggest win is frame rate. Many games default to 60 fps and offer a 30 fps option buried in settings. For slower games like sims and adventures, you'll barely notice the drop, and your battery will thank you.

Brightness is the other obvious one. Auto-brightness tends to crank up outdoors, and a glowing racing game will cook your phone. Knocking it down a notch and turning off any screen-warming effects helps.

Background behavior matters too. Some games keep syncing or running idle loops even when you've switched apps. If a game is draining power while closed, check whether it has a proper pause or offline mode, and revoke background refresh if it doesn't.
